Artificial Intelligence is one of the most critical technologies of this century.
The development and application of AI technology change daily. To be ahead of the curve, I spend a lot of time analysing, filtering and distilling the latest insights for all my clients.

Fujitsu has opened an AI Ethics and Governance Office to oversee the “safe and secure deployment”.
Thoughts and insights: 2022 will be the year of AI ethics. This is an encouraging sign for ethics and governance. The key will be implementing an AI ethics strategy to help guide the company through the latest standards.

AVA has launched an AI-powered commercial real estate platform
This pioneering commercial platform is designed to give accurate, instantaneous property valuations for millions of commercial real estate properties. The AVA – Aqueous Valuation Algorithm uses proprietary AI to determine valuations with 98% accuracy.
Thoughts and insights: There are many variables to consider when evaluating the property. This uses the latest up-to-date spectrum of commercial real estate data, including characteristics, history and age. The beauty of AI is that you can throw a lot of data at it to get more accurate, detailed appraisals. Also, the system can be set to learn and improve over time.

AI used to track and reduce malnutrition in care homes
New AI technology is being deployed in UK care homes to help monitor and reduce malnutrition. It is estimated that more than half (approximately 54 per cent) of residents of long-term care homes are either malnourished or at risk of malnutrition.
Thoughts and insights: As humans, we all have different nutritional needs. With care homes, many people need to be monitored. The ML models can help spot issues early and allow human intervention. This is very powerful.

Airbnb is using AI to reduce the increase in house parties.
Thoughts and insights: One of the most incredible things AI can do is sift through lots of data and spot signs of irregularity. Although it may only be able to spot some of them, it should reduce the number of house parties on the platform.

Apple acquires AI music company.
Apple has acquired a London-based AI music generation company founded in 2016. The technology generates music by combining royalty-free music with AI based on human interaction.
Thoughts and insights: An exciting acquisition for Apple. Technology allows music to change depending on human interaction. This could be interaction in games, online or interactive TV/movies. AI is perfect for this as it can dynamically analyse music and adjust it depending on various variables. This could lead to more interactive and immersive technology experiences for Apple.

AI-enabled drones will tell human teams where to find marine debris
Marine debris can pose a huge problem for sea traffic and wildlife. New technology developed by Oregon State University, along with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science. They have developed a special camera and AI technology to help.

AI microscopy helps find a cure for various diseases
Understanding how cells die can give us insight into human development. AI comes to the rescue through microscopy, which can analyse images as accurately as humans can but 100 times faster.

Deepmind AlphaCode
Google’s AI unit Deepmind has invented an AI tool that writes computer code at a competitive level. The system known as AlphaCode will help automate aspects of computer programming.
Thoughts and insights: Although DeepMind is not the first. Others like Copilot are also doing this. However, it demonstrates the power of AI transforming industries like programming. At the moment, AlphaCode will not beat a good programmer, but it is designed to assist humans quickly in exploring programming. We will see more use of AI to augment human work and creativity.

AI gives a diagnosis of Covid-19 in a few minutes.
University of West Scotland has developed an AI model that can detect Covid-19 in minutes with 98% accuracy.
Thoughts and insights: This great use of AI/ML deep learning technology. It is often difficult to process so many people with PCR tests. This method will speed up the process and allow countries that can’t get tests to help protect their population.

Clearview, the AI facial recognition company, has been awarded a U.S. patent for its platform’s unique facial recognition capability that has performed nearly flawlessly in the recent National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) Facial Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT).
