April 2023

  • GPT-4 launched – The newest version of OpenAI language model system, GPT-4 was officially launched. – More here
  • MS Office Copilot launched – GPT-4 embedded into Microsoft Office products for greater efficiency – More here
  • ERNIE LLM – Baidu release ERNIE LLM bot – More here
  • Alpaca LLaMA – Stanford release Alpaca LLM. Alpaca is a relatively small model, with only 7 billion parameters but really good at following instructions. – More here

February 2023

  • US and EU look to announce plans on AI standards – Civil servants for US and EU have promised to join forces on the development of AI standards – More here
  • Tech sector layoffs – The tech industry layoffs have quadrupled in 2023 already. This may be an adjustment from the abundance of capital in past years – More here
  • Meta’s LLaMA launched  – Meta released its Large Language Model with 65 billion parameters. This one is designed to be smaller, more flexible and available to Universities and non-commercial organisations. More here and here

  • Microsoft Bing with chatGPT launched  – Microsoft launched Bing search with built-in chatGPT to allow chat-orientated search. More here
  • Google Bard LLM launched  – Google is releasing Bard, a new LLM powered by LaMDA for the ultimate in personalised search experiences – More here

January 2023

  • Baidu to launch ChatGPT-Style Bot  – China’s search giant has announced that they will be releasing a chatGPT style bot in March this year – More here 
  • US NIST AI framework released  – US Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) has released it AI Risk Management Framework – More here
  • Google outline responsible AI approaches – Google are producing a lot of innovative AI. They outline their plans for responsible AI – More here
  • Google introduce new AI tools for retailers  – Google develop state-of-the-art cloud-based AI solutions for recognising billions of product – More here
  • Rodin 3d Avatar generation paper – Paper presents 3d generative model that uses stable diffusion to generate 3D faces/avatars. An exciting application for converting 2d to 3d – More here
  • Amazon human-in-the-loop framework proposed – Amazon proposes a novel human-in-the-loop framework for generating semantic-segmentation annotations for videos. – More here
  • VALL-E zero-shot text-to-speech synthesizer – Microsoft develop VALL-E, a neural codec language model that can be used to synthesize high-quality personalized speech with only a 3-second enrolled recording. – More here
